چکیده

This paper report the results of an empirical study which was carried out to investigate the effect of testing environment on the results of usability evaluation process. The study involved 54 school children from India in the age range of 11-13 years. Children were asked to perform books searching tasks with International Children’s Digital Library (ICDL). Children’s activities with ICDL were captured by using CamStudio, an open source screen capturing software. The effect was quantified in terms of number of usability problems identified by the children when they were tested in various testing environments. The results are indicative that field testing with children can be a viable solution in terms of reduced time taken to complete the given tasks and reduced frustration levels reported by the children during the tests. Usability and Cognitive Impact of the Interaction with 3D Virtual Interactive Acoustic Environments by Blind Children

It is known that blind children represent spatial environments with cognitive difficulty. This can be decreased if they are exposed to interactive experiences with acoustic stimuli delivered through spatialized sound software. A few studies have approached this issue by using interactive applications that integrate virtual reality and cognitive tasks to enhance spatial orientation skills. The a...

Usability Testing with Children: Comparing Think-Aloud and Constructive Interaction

Constructive interaction provides natural thinking-aloud as test subjects collaborate to solve tasks. Since children may face difficulties in following instructions for a standard think-aloud test, constructive interaction has been suggested as evaluation method when conducting usability testing with children. However, the relationship between thinkaloud and constructive interaction is still po...

A comparison of think-aloud, questionnaires and interviews for testing usability with children

The paper reports a comparative assessment of 3 usability-testing methods (UTM) involving 45 children aged 8-14 as test-users. The 3 methods were concurrent think-aloud, interview and questionnaire. These 3 UTM ’s require different levels of verbalisation from the children that were performing the evaluation. It was hypothesised that the age of the children, their gender, verbal competence and ...
